School-Based Occupational Therapy Support
Helping children participate, regulate and thrive in everyday school life.
Willow Tree Occupational Therapy partners with schools and families to provide collaborative, school-based occupational therapy support for children across the Northern Rivers region. Our approach focuses on supporting regulation, participation, independence and classroom engagement within the environments where children learn, play and grow every day.
A Collaborative Approach to School-Based Support
We believe children thrive when support is practical, collaborative and embedded within their everyday environments. By working closely with families, teachers and support teams, Willow Tree Occupational Therapy helps children build the skills needed to participate confidently in learning, play and daily school routines.
Therapy occurs within natural environments such as schools, homes and community settings, allowing support strategies to be meaningful, realistic and connected to the child’s everyday life.
How Our School Partnership Program Works
1
Enquiry & Consultation
Schools or families reach out to discuss support needs. We provide information on our collaborative model and current availability.
2
School Partnership Agreement
We establish a formal partnership with the school, outlining communication pathways, space requirements and shared goals for student support.
3
Family Consent & Onboarding
Families complete onboarding and provide consent for therapy to occur on-site. We verify NDIS (Self/Plan Managed) or Private Health details.
4
Embedded Therapy Support
Therapy sessions occur within the child’s natural school environment, focusing on classroom participation, self-regulation and social play.
5
Collaborative Review
We provide regular updates to families and teachers, ensuring strategies are practical, effective and integrated into the child’s everyday routines.
Limited therapy positions available each term to maintain meaningful collaboration and individualised support.

For Schools

- Student self-regulation skills are developed in-situ, leading to improved classroom engagement and learning outcomes.
- Meaningful collaboration with Learning Support Teams to align therapy with whole-school wellbeing goals.
- Accessible professional consultation for teachers to support students with diverse learning and regulation needs.
Our model allows schools to access collaborative occupational therapy support without needing to employ a full-time internal therapist.
Why School-Based Occupational Therapy Matters
We believe therapy is most meaningful when it happens in the child’s real-life environment. For many children, school is where challenges with regulation, attention, handwriting, social participation and independence are most visible. By providing OT support within the school setting, we can observe the child’s needs in context and work alongside teachers to create practical strategies that support participation throughout the day.
Limited Therapy Positions Available
To provide high-quality, individualised support, Willow Tree Occupational Therapy offers a limited number of school-based therapy places each fortnight. Our current school partnership model allows for approximately 20 student therapy places per fortnight, across allocated school days. This ensures therapy remains consistent, purposeful and collaborative.
